ELECTROWEAK SYMMETRY
Professor Willenbrock is involved in the theory and phenomenology of the strong and weak interactions.
He has concentrated his efforts on the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking, which is responsible for
the generation of particle masses, and on the top quark, which is the least well-studied of the elementary
particles. He performs calculations relevant to experimental studies of the Higgs boson (the leading
candidate for the particle responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking) and the top quark, as well
as calculations in quantum chromodynamics (the theory of the strong interaction). He also pursues
theoretical studies of fundamental issues that underlie the theories of the strong and weak
interactions.
